Preservation Protocols & Archival Usage Covenant
1. Digital Sanctuary Purpose
The Forgotten Library is an open-access, non-profit digital archival experience created to celebrate, preserve, and illuminate world literature. By accessing this sanctuary, you agree to engage with its manuscripts in accordance with scholarly respect, cultural appreciation, and non-commercial educational enjoyment.
2. Public Domain & Open Access Content
The vast majority of digitized manuscripts available within this sanctuary originate from public domain archives, including Project Gutenberg, the Internet Archive, and open repositories. These works are free from copyright restrictions in most jurisdictions and may be read freely by anyone, anywhere in the world.
Metadata, covers, and analytical overviews for contemporary works are displayed strictly for bibliographic reference and educational discovery under Fair Use doctrine.
3. Sovereign Reader Autonomy
We uphold complete user autonomy. No user accounts, passwords, email collections, or intrusive analytics are required to access any portion of the library. All reading bookmarks, shelf states, and visual preferences reside exclusively on your personal device via local browser storage (IndexedDB / localStorage).
4. Disclaimer of Warranties
The platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. While we strive to maintain uninterrupted access and high-fidelity typesetting, The Forgotten Library makes no warranties regarding the continuous availability of third-party public archive mirrors.
